Problems with dbus_connection_borrow_message

It wasn't my idea to get this low level ;-)
This is a bit of existing code that I need to debug.
I think I got a little bit further If I call
dbus_connection_read_write_dispatch instead of dbus_connection_read_write I
get the signals. But I'm not sure I understand the difference between these
two functions.
