If it isn't possible to upgrade then you are not going to be able to apply
patches for this either. I hope what you mean is that you aren't able to
switch between branches?

Are you sharing the same connection between multiple threads in your
client? If you are, this might be
<https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=102839>, which is fixed in
1.12.x but not in 1.10.x (the patches applied in January 2018 between
dbus 1.12.2 and 1.12.4 are probably backportable though).
