In traditional orthography, և character is considered as a ligature like ﬓ
(մ+ն), ﬔ (մ+ե), ﬕ (մ+ի), ﬖ (վ+ն) and ﬗ (մ+խ).

In reformed orthography, և character is no more a ligature, but is a
completely distinct letter like the other letters of armenian alphabet.
Furthermore, և character is accessible from keyboard for thus who want to use
reformed orthography.

The problem I noticed is, if automatic և ligature is enabled, it is not
possible to write ե + ւ (displaying two distinct letters).
