I don't see how legacy hardware fits into this - hal's not going 
anywhere on current distribution releases.

The quirk setup makes no sense for desktop hardware. In the mobile 
market, the only other GPU I've seen in anything vaguely modern has been 
VIA - and to pretend that their hardware is supported by Linux at all at 
the moment is just a good way of misleading our users.
