I'm not sure what ubuntu ships off hand.

The kernels and userspace stacks are generally compatible, so for the most part
you can mix and match userspace and kernel versions as long as both support
your asics.

Some combination of commands from the userspace components is causing a a GPU
hang.  The driver attempts to reset the GPU, but fails.  I would suggest trying
upgrading or downgrading your userspace gfx components to see if that helps.
