@Marek: was that directed at me (I don't think so)? If yes, I'm unsure what I
should derive from your statement and what I should try.

I've tried it now and get what was described in bug #79806, comment 3:
# echo "auto" > /sys/class/drm/card0/device/power_dpm_force_performance_level
bash: echo: write error: Invalid argument
Not sure, what valid options would be for me.
