radeon r 480 hdmi audio open source driver how?

I read somewhere that you need DAL drm patches to be able to use the hdmi audio with open source driver, but I am unable to boot into desktop with the patches and I read that this is a problem for some others too. All the kernels I have tried so far havent enabled hdmi audio.
