The latest Debian 4.6 kernel (4.6.0-1-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 4.6.1-1 (2016-06-06))
still shows

[   20.413962] mgag200 0000:06:04.0: Fatal error during GPU init: -6
but it recovers and the console works.
I'm running X with
[    41.153] (--) MGA(0): Chipset: "mgag200 eW Nuvoton"
now.
