Summary: Nouveau fails to use all external monitors on Thinkpad
P51 with Nvidia Optimus (Nvidia Quadro M1200)
           Product: Drivers
           Version: 2.5

Hi,

im using a new Lenovo Thinkpad P51 that uses Nvidia Optimus. It has a
integrated Intel graphic (IntelĀ® HD Graphics 630) and a descrete Nvidia graphic
(Nvidia Quadro M1200). The Thinkpad is used in combination with a Lenovo
ThinkPad Workstation Dock
 (Docking Station).

My OS is Debian Stretch (9).

When using the proprietary Nvidia driver from the debian stretch repos, I can
use two monitors on the docking station and the internal display. However, i
can't rearrange them using xrandr. This only works when the integrated Intel
GPU is deactivated in Bios.

When using Nouveau however, I can only use one monitor connected to the docking
station and the internal display. If the Bios is configured to use both graphic
cards or only the discrete does not change anything.
It seems that Nouveau only recognizes three monitors: One for the internal, one
for all external connected the Thinkpad itself, one for all monitors connected
to the dock. As a result, all monitors connected to the dock show the same
(cloned), which is not changeable.

The following commands were used to pass the external monitors to the discrete
GPU:
sudo xrandr --setprovideroffloadsink 1 0
sudo xrandr --setprovideroutputsource 1 0

Otherwise only the internal display works with Nouveau.

It is not possibly to set the GPU to only use the internal intel GPU in BIOS.

To summarize this up, more than one external monitor using a Lenovo Thinkpad
P51 with a Dockingstation is only possible by using the proprietary nvidia
driver.
