I'm not sure if you'll keep working in this series after the proposal of
the Chromium folks. Anyway, just a small comment.

Instead of reducing the number of pipes, you could change the maximum number
of overlay planes to 6-4 planes. So many overlay planes are not that needed
and it would be nice to have 4 pipes with overlay planes enabled.
