Thank you for the informative information. I'll probably stay on the LTS 16.04
but as soon as I get wind of the release of kernel 4.7+ I will install it.
I was able to get my system working properly by reverting to kernel
3.13.0-92-generic.
Here' a link to a discussion I found that stated that users who upgraded may
use older kernels from 12.04 and 14.04 on 16.04 even if not supported.
