Flatpak/Flathub versioning

Some parts of flatpak/ostree are kinda open-ended, and its up to
individual repo owners to define how the are used. For instance, branch
names is one such thing. However, to make flathub easy to use we need
to pick a best practices for these things and encode it in the
UI/workflow, otherwise it will be too hard to use.
So, I sat down and wrote up my thoughts on how we should do versioning:

Any comments? Does this seems like a good plan?
If anyone have experience with shipping flatpak apps (Endless?) do you
have any experience with things like versioning and scaling the repos?
