Documentation on creating SDK extensions?

Hello!
I recently found out about flatpak (through trying to get hold of Kube),
and I think it's awesome. I'd like to try and make an SDK extension for
Swift projects, so that the fact that it's only easily accessible on Ubuntu
distros won't hurt.
However, I can't seem to find any documentation on this anywhere. Only
thing I can find is:
https://github.com/futuretim/rust-flatpak-extension
and the "More information" link is down. My questions:
- Are there any guides or examples on doing this?
- Based on the above repo, it seems SDK extensions are built from source.
Is it possible to create them from binaries instead? Building Swift takes a
really long time...
I'll admit, I'm not really sure what I'm doing here, but hey, I've never
let that stop me before. ;)
