        <pre>My original idea also was to do the mapping in FcPatternGetString() for
FC_FILE, and hook the allocated string to a hashmap hooked to the FcCache for
the pattern.  That would solve the lifecycle problem.

But Alex's solution, to premap everything, is simpler, even if slower and less
memory-efficient.</pre>
