[Fontconfig] Installation

Hello,

I'm running running Debian 3.0 with the bundled XFree86 4.1.0 and I want
to install Fontconfig and Xft 2.0 so GTK+ 2.2 can use it.

My doubts are: 

1) does Fontconfig and Xft 2.0 works with XFree86 4.1.0?

2) can I compile Fontconfig and Xft 2.0 with my current XFree86
instalation and it will work? or do I have to get a new version of
XFree86 with an already bundled Fontconfig and Xft 2.0?
