[Fontconfig] problems trying to compile on Solaris 9

Hi all-

I'm trying to compile and install fontconfig 2.2.0 on my Solaris 9 
system, but I am running into an error during ./configure.

checking for freetype-config... /usr/local/bin/freetype-config
checking for FT_Get_First_Char... yes
checking for expat.h... yes
checking for XML_ParserCreate... no
configure: error: cannot find expat library

I searched through the mail archives and found a similar problem and I 
know that I installed expat, right before I tried to ./configure.

I also checked expat.h and found an instance of XML_ParserCreate, so I 
don't know what the configure script is complaining for.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
