[Fontconfig] same fonts in multiple tree

Hi All,
      How does fontconfig choose a font file when it is
located in multiple trees ? 

For instance, the "dejavu" font could be in a local tree 
(to have the last version) and in other trees when
installed by some software distribution 
(like TeXlive, gnome etc.).
