Not really.  If the only fonts supporting a character is color, this happens.
 FreeType knows how to convert color glyphs to grayscale though, so we really
should handle this properly.  Ie. making it clear to the client that user
doesn't want color so they can ask FreeType accordingly.

Leaving to client goes against much of fontconfig's design.
