I don’t think TeX Gyre Termes ever claimed to be drop in replacement of
times, so the font is not broken in that sense. It should not have been
made a Times alias in the first place, and this is true for the rest of
TeX Gyre fonts. (They are replacement in the sense that authors who need
to use the original fonts can use them instead.)
