That's definitely an interesting repository you've dug up there. Indeed 
it seems all the work had already been done.

Agreed.

Hm. I had kind of hoped the FreeType fairies would somehow detect your 
post and ingest the patch.
But it seems now that I have to tread on the unknown ground that is the 
FreeType mailing list.
