[Fontconfig] Desktop freezes on user font directory change; comment on bug #100096?

Hi list,
my font development efforts are often interrupted by a frozen desktop
when I copy the font to my ~/.fonts directory, where various apps use
100% of the CPU one after the other. There is a bug report that
describes the issue: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=100096
-- there aren't any comments though. Is the problem really with
fontconfig or is it elsewhere?
