It's entirely possible and something I'm poking a bit on :) To
complete the puzzle, you need a nicely designed abstract interface to
the various protocols for IM services. You would also need a
communication API for sending/receiving messages, joining chats,
privacy, flexible account management with assignable data for each
account, and probably a few other things I'm not thinking of.
I'm working on such a framework, and would rather not get into it all
that much right now. In time, though, I'll make something public.
