Games usually need more patches than most other FLOSS software.
Sometimes, they are not maintained by their original developers
anymore, sometimes upstream does not care about Unix-compatibility or
they won't accept the changes that are required to make games work
properly. Traditionally, maintainers of every distribution had to
create their own patches and fixes to provide similar funcionality.
After successful collaboration between several major distributions, we
decided to take this to the next level. Members of Arch, Debian,
Fedora, FreeBSD, NetBSD, Slackware, SuSE and Ubuntu have decided to
join forces and start working together at <a
href="http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/games">games at lists.freedesktop.org</a>
and #freedesktop-games on irc.freenode.net. Collaboration on upstream
level is common these days, but distributions have largely remained
islands and it's time to fix that. Thus, we want to invite everyone,
upstream, maintainers and whoever might be interested to join us in
this collaborative effort :)


Los juegos han necesitado habitualmente más parches que otros
programas libres. A veces han dejado ya de ser mantenidos por quienes
los programaron. Otras veces no les importa demasiado la
compatibilidad con sistemas UNIX, o no aceptan las modificaciones que
son necesarios para hacer funcionar dichos juegos correctamente.
Habitualmente quienes se han encargado de mantenerlos en cada una de
las distribuciones han tenido que desarrollar sus propios parches para
resolver de nuevo los mismos problemas. Tras una colaboración exitosa
entre Debian, Fedora y Ubuntu, miembros de Arch, Debian, Fedora,
FreeBSD, NetBSD, Slackware, SuSE y Ubuntu han decidido unir fuerzas y
comenzar a trabajar conjuntamente en una nueva lista de correo en <a
href="http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/games">games at lists.freedesktop.org</a>
y el canal #freedesktop-games en irc.freenode.net (en inglés, eso sí).
La colaboración entre quienes desarrollan los programas es habitual en
la actualidad, pero las distribuciones se han mantenido aisladas en
gran parte y ya es hora de solucionarlo. ¿Te animas a echarnos una
