Hallo,
"from what I can see the GHNS proposal was not accepted among the six
Blender
foundation slots. Are you still planning to work on this project despite
this?" (Josef Spillner)

Yes and no
for now I and another person from the blender community are working on
building a client framework
so that anyone can create a plug in to communicate with his/her own
repository.
You have more info here :
http://blenderartists.org/forum/showthread.php?p=1109520
http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Sandbox/RepoClient
http://code.google.com/p/blender-repo-client-framework/ (there's a dia
quickie uml diagram in the trunk which you can view online in the source tab
> browse > trunk)
There's no code written yet.

My thoughts have progressed a little since our last discussions :
1. having a client for just one type or repo/API (that is a GHNS repo) is
not sufficient because there are already several existing repositories,
despite the fact that the latter have their own online API or have no API at
all. We could force those repositories to follow some standard, but I don't
want to and prefer coding one client plugin for each.
2. the project we want to make could be beneficial to other community
graphic app projects such as Inkscape, Scribus, K3D etc... (though I haven't
spoken to them-community at all about that).

Setting up a GHNS portal for Blender would take a lot of work. And I would
prefer that we (the two people small team I'm currently in) start coding
something for the existing repos first, and then when things are designed ok
and working well, see if someone is ok to have a Blender GHNS portal up and
then, and only then, we could start writing a client plugin for our
framework.

as to the GSoc, I feel this is somehow a good thing for me that my proposal
was rejected because I actually did not feel like spending a whole summer
having to code full time (I wanted to take holidays, and had a 6 weeks work
experience to do).

So if I may sum things up, I do am going to work on this project. And my
being behind the setting up of a Blender specific GHNS portal is not
something I want for now, unless other people are motivated to endeavour to
it.
