 If I attempt to set any option on the sinks with the GConf keys (like
 setting audiosink to "alsasink device=hw:0,1") it thinks the option is part
 of the plugin's name and fails.

+You haven't specified where it fails.  I suspect it is rhythmbox, and
+rhythmbox needs to be fixed.
