Bug#: 125463
Product: GStreamer
Version: 0.6.3
OS: Linux
OS Details: Debian GNU/Linux
Status: NEW
Resolution:
Severity: normal
Priority: Normal
Component: gst-player
AssignedTo: gstreamer-maint at bugzilla.gnome.org
ReportedBy: vanieter at yahoo.ca
QAContact: gstreamer-maint at bugzilla.gnome.org
TargetMilestone: HEAD
URL:
Summary: MP3 playback problems

It's as simple as that : many songs which play in XMMS or MPG321 (for
instance) report a time equal to 0:00, and trying to play it reports a
"Could not find media type" error. I have however observed that those songs
have typically been troublesome to XMMS and Cantus (a mass tag-renaming
program, among other things), as the ID3 tags were partly locked - only
id3v2 succesfully edited the tags, and that only after wiping it out.

Such songs could also not be burnt to an audio CD by K3B. I don't think
they are encoded in LAME VBR - however, how can I determine what codec was
used ? Could that be the cause ?

I haven't found any corellation between the bitrate and a file's
unplayability, nor with the partition type used.
