GStreamer | gstreamer (core) | Ver: HEAD CVS

           Summary: Autodetection of soundsystem
           Product: GStreamer
           Version: HEAD CVS
          Platform: Other
        OS/Version: Linux
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: enhancement
          Priority: Low
         Component: gstreamer (core)
        AssignedTo: gstreamer-bugs at lists.sourceforge.net
        ReportedBy: mchristoph.eckert at t-online.de

This is a wish, not a bug:

I wonder if there could be an (optional) autodetection mechanism for the audio subsystem, maybe in
the following order:

* If a JACKd is present, use the JACK output plugin
* If no JACKd is present, try using ALSA resp. DMIX
* If ALSA is not present but OSS is detected, use OSS output

This would make the audio subsystem transparent to the user. The user hadn't to think about the
different sound systems.

Just an idea, but I think it's worth a try.
