Above is the dbg.log.bz2 file, although the dbg.log appears to be empty.  I'm
relatively new to Linux so there is a chance I did something wrong.

Here's what I got doing the 2nd method:

chris at chris-desktop:~$ gst-launch-0.10 playbin
uri=file:///media/DISK4_VOL1/My%20Movies/Stock%20Footage/earth_c.mov
Setting pipeline to PAUSED ...
Pipeline is PREROLLING ...
ERROR: from element /playbin0/preroll_video_src0: Internal data flow error.
Additional debug info:

ERROR: pipeline doesn't want to preroll.
