Thanks for the quick response. Turns out this is a corrupt file. I guess its
still a bug that this isn't handled in a nicer way for the user. I get the same
output when running gst-launch manually:

Setting pipeline to PAUSED ...

GStreamer-CRITICAL **: gst_pad_activate_pull: assertion `old ==
GST_ACTIVATE_NONE' failed
aborting...
Aborted
