I can still reproduce it with CVS of everything. It's some kind of race
condition, probably in playbin/decodebin somewhere, haven't managed to track it
down yet.

FWIW,

  % GST_DEBUG=*:5 whateverapp 2>/dev/null

makes things work just fine here that don't work otherwise (which is even more
annoying because I can't get the full debug output of when it doesn't work
right ...)
