  GStreamer | don't know | Ver: 0.10.x
Summary: Please add dither when converting to 8-bit audio.
           Product: GStreamer
           Version: 0.10.x
          Platform: Other
        OS/Version: Linux
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: enhancement
          Priority: Normal
         Component: don't know
        AssignedTo: gstreamer-bugs at lists.sourceforge.net
        ReportedBy: junkmail at media.mit.edu
         QAContact: gstreamer-bugs at lists.sourceforge.net
     GNOME version: Unspecified
   GNOME milestone: Unspecified

The output when converting a 16-bit audio stream to an 8-bit audio stream is
very noisy, probably because no dither was added to the original signal before
conversion. Please add 8 bits of random noise to the original audio stream
before converting to an 8-bit audio stream. This will help reduce the noise,
at least in the quiet parts of the audio stream.
