  GStreamer | don't know | Ver: 0.10.14
Summary: kill the gstreamer registry file
           Product: GStreamer
           Version: 0.10.14
          Platform: Other
        OS/Version: All
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: Normal
         Component: don't know
        AssignedTo: gstreamer-bugs at lists.sourceforge.net
        ReportedBy: nekohayo at gmail.com
         QAContact: gstreamer-bugs at lists.sourceforge.net
     GNOME version: 2.19/2.20
   GNOME milestone: Unspecified

Please describe the problem:
~/.gstreamer-0.10/registry.i486.xml (autogenerated whenever I start a gstreamer
app such as totem) corrupts itself way too easily *and* does not seem to
provide any function at all, at least none that I can think of as an user.

Steps to reproduce:
I don't know.

Actual results:
Corrupt registry prevents the picture from being shown in video files. This is
with files that totem has no problems playing in normal circumstances.

Removing that file and restarting totem allows the video to be played back
instantaneously without problems.

Removing that file *and* preventing it from being created (using restrictive
permissions) does not even cause problems, totem still plays the same video
after a restart! This is the proof to me that this file must be useless. It has
been over 25 times that I had to delete it on various computers that "wouldn't
play videos that used to play before". I can't make people enthusiastic about
the gstreamer technology if I have to tell them to clear some crazy, obscure
hidden registry file every once in a while!

Expected results:
Do not ever create that file!

Does this happen every time?
happens once every few weeks/months

Other information:
The power user fix is this:

rm ~/.gstreamer-0.10/registry*
chmod ugo -w ~/.gstreamer-0.10/
