We are not calling g_thread_init() from Pidgin at all. We've had trouble with
libraries requiring it in the past. I've added a call to it very early in
main(), and will have Luke test it to see if it works. We would generally like
to avoid calling g_thread_init() for reasons mentioned in
http://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=201791 but if it turns out
we need to initialize threads, we'll definitely fix our own problems.
