Could you run gstreamer-properties like this:

 $ GST_DEBUG=*:5  gstreamer-properties 2>dbg.log
 ... make it fail ...
 ... try again and make it succeed ...
 Quit or interrupt with Control-C
 $ gzip dbg.log

and attach the dbg.log.gz file?

Also, if you have a gutsy installation already: does it work with gutsy?
