The first step to fixing this problem is to get the hardware into the hands of
someone interested and capable of hacking on xvimagesink.

I'm not convinced of the long-term viability of the XvMC approach.  Most
hardware out there these days can handle some level of programming in the GPU,
in which case it would be cool to start writing codecs or codec helpers in the
GPU.  Nevertheless, if it solves problems for people, e.g., the main CPU is too
slow to decode MPEG and a hardware decoder is available, then it would be nice
to have this included.
