GStreamer | gst-plugins-ugly | Ver: 0.10.21
Summary: GStreamer mp3 consistent and regular stuttering
Product: GStreamer
Version: 0.10.21
Platform: Other
OS/Version: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: Normal
Component: gst-plugins-ugly
AssignedTo: gstreamer-bugs at lists.sourceforge.net
ReportedBy: webmaster at nerd-network.cjb.net
QAContact: gstreamer-bugs at lists.sourceforge.net
GNOME version: 2.23/2.24
GNOME milestone: Unspecified
Please describe the problem:
GStreamer cannot play SOME mp3 files without stuttering/pausing every ~0.5
seconds. An example of an affected media file is:
http://www.sueu.org.au/fileadmin/audio/PM2007/2007101Betransformed(Romans12v2).mp3
A fair portion of my mp3's (from many different sources) have this problem, the
above link is just an example that can be shown without infringing copyright.
This is true for all Gstreamer powered applications (Banshee, Rythmbox, Totem,
etc), but does not affect Mplayer, VLC, etc.
Re-encoding the MP3 in such programs as Audacity solves the problem, but it is
most inconvenient to do so.
This seems to happen with, or without, the fluendo mp3 plugin enabled.
There have been some WAV files in the past exhibiting this behaviour, but I
have since deleted them.
Just in case it is relevant, I am using Ubuntu 8.10, though I have noted this
issue for some time.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Load an MP3 like the one above
2. Try to play it in a GStreamer powered multimedia player
Actual results:
It stutters. Severely. With a repeating cycle lasting about a second. 0.5
seconds it plays the file, and 0.5 seconds it remains quiet.
Expected results:
Obviously, for it to play properly.
Does this happen every time?
Yes
