I changed the instruction to this:
CC="gcc -m32" USE_ARCH=32 \
PKG_CONFIG_PATH="/usr/lib/pkgconfig:/usr/X11R7/lib/pkgconfig:/opt/xfce/lib/pkgconfig"
NM="nm" \
./configure --prefix=/usr --host=i686-pc-linux-gnu &&
make

(Is this right?)
whatever, the build has succeeded, and the test suit passed too.
David, thanks a lot. This problem has tortured me for a week.

Another question, if the NM is specified, do we still need to change the
libtool version?
