Just as a sidenote, I wondered why I'd previously been able to play these
files, and my guess is I previously had gst-plugins-faad.  Reinstalling
gst-plugins-faad means that the thumbnailer and totem can see the videos fine.

I'll give the patch a try (after again removing gst-plugins-faad)...
