I have both an integrated intel card, as well as an M-Audio Delta 1010 (also
ICE1712-based). I am experiencing this issue.

I can confirm this started to happen upon upgrading to Ubuntu Jaunty (9.04).

For me the speaker icon in the panel does not show up. Selecting
System/Preferences/Sound works some times, and sometimes not. Sometimes I can
launch the sound properties window from the command line, and sometimes the
command does nothing, just freezes up until quit with ctrl+c.

I can also confirm that this issue seems to be related to the whole panel
freezing. My setup sometimes has the panel frozen right after booting, with no
human interaction. Rebooting solves the issue.

I'm not sure if it's relevant that I have multiple sound devices, but that is
usually something less tested.
