Thanks for the tip ;) 

I was aware of freeze when this component was written, but we were having
problems with it in our test pipelines, and writing a custom component solved
the client's problem faster than debugging it.

The reason we are still putting it out now is (1) partly to satisfy licensing
requirements, and (2) there is some interest in transforming it into a
slideshow/image playlist element that would be a useful contribution.  As time
permits I intend to move to a design with more code reuse.
