You should run configure directly - there's no need to run autogen.sh unless
you've checked out a git version of the module.

That said, it's a problem that autogen.sh doesn't work in the tarball. It
either should not be disted at all, or should just use the common/ from the
tarball instead of attempting to check out the git submodule.
