just fyi, we are using gstv4l2xoverlay on ubuntu in conjunction with
xf86-video-v4l2 (http://github.com/robclark/xf86-video-v4l2) for support of hw
overlay in apps (totem/mozilla/chromium)..  we have some patches on top of what
is currently in gst-plugins-good to enable xoverlay support v4l2sink.  So today
gstv4l2xoverlay.c is not needed, or even functional, but this won't always be
the state.  (Maybe you suspected this already)
