tried packages from the gstreamer-developers ppa

libgstreamer0.10-0:
  Installed: 0.10.25.2-3~karmic1

gstreamer0.10-plugins-base:
  Installed: 0.10.25.2-1~karmic1

gstreamer0.10-plugins-good:
  Installed: 0.10.17.2-1~karmic1

issue remains
