The plan is that someone makes a patch where this behaviour can be enabled in
configure (--enable-xdg-dirs) (see comment #13). Then it can be tested and we
can safely switch for 0.11.

We still need to figure where we shall put the "plugins" subdir. See discussion
on xdg-list:
