I would suggest having a default that's not zero.. Maybe 50ms or something and
maybe we could have an environment var to be able to change the default for the
whole system/session.

If the application sets it too high, it will just queue up more frames before
playing them, so instead of dropping 1 frames out of 2 if you have half the
necessary speed, then it would drops 2 out of 4 (for example).
