See comment #25: I think the current proposal is overdesigned, convoluted, and
confused. And I think other than XMP the use cases mentioned a re rather
unconvincing and can easily be handled differently in better ways.

I think it's fine. It does exactly what it's supposed to do with
straight-forward API. It solves a real problem that can't easily be solved
better in another way.

It's not that I wouldn't prefer a generic API, I just can't think of such an
API that makes sense to me and doesn't have the issues mentioned above.
