Yes, I'm now running a 32-bit GStreamer in 64-bit OS X. It did indeed create
another x86_64-named registry file.

I expect the memory error was caused by the exact opposite: the 64-bit registry
file was left over from when I had built a 64-bit GStreamer, and then the
32-bit GStreamer, thinking its architecture was x86_64, tried to load it.
