I am so sorry, it seems like after installing some packages it works again. I
think it's complicated by the icon not getting displayed right (which made me
assume it still wasn't working even with the additional gstreamer-plugins-*
packages), but that seems to be some kind of thumbnailer bug, not gstreamer's
fault. So I am going to go ahead and close this. I'm really impressed by your
quick response, thank you!
