A gst_caps_to_static_string() seems simple enough no ? 

This is a major pain on osx, I'm forced to patch the code each time I want some
caps with a gst_caps_to_string/g_free ...

I'm willing to do a lot of the boring patching job if we can agree on an API...
quickly ?
