autogen.sh fails in MinGW with

configure: error: C compiler cannot create executables.

The error line in the config.log:
c:/mingw/bin/../lib/gcc/mingw32/4.7.2/../../../../mingw32/bin/ld.exe: cannot
find crt2.o: No such file or directory
